Ingredients:

  • 1 small head of red cabbage, rinsed + chopped

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1 large green apple, peeled + chopped

  • 1 Tbsp. allspice

  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar

  • 1/2 Cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1 Tbsp. sea salt

  • 1 Tbsp. ground black pepper

  • pinch of nutmeg

Instructions - how to:

Add all ingredients to the slow cooker; cover tightly with lid and set to HIGH setting.

Cook on high for half an hour. After half an hour has passed, lower temperature to LOW setting on the slow cooker, and cook for another half hour.

After this additional half hour has passed, open the lid, mix all ingredients and cover again. Cook for an additional HOUR on LOW setting.

Mix one more time and then cover again (last time, promise!) and then cook for an additional half an hour until cabbage has braised beautifully and very aromatic.

Total cook time: 2-1/2 hours.

NOTE ABOUT COOKING TIME:

Every slow cooker is different, and maintains temperature differently. Some older models' "low" temperature setting is much lower than some newer models "low" temperature setting.

If unsure about the time setting on your slow cooker, you may opt to set it on "WARM" and braise contents for a longer period of time.
