Here's why this tea is soooo good for you, especially first thing in the morning, after night-time fasting and on an empty stomach:

Honey - Aside from relieving coughs, soothing a sore throat and even bronchitis, honey is a great antiseptic that boosts the immune system. It also helps to soothe the stomach and relieve gas, wounds and burns, gastric ulcers, and helps prevent cardiovascular diseases. Unlike sugar, honey helps to reduce stored fats – hurray!

Ginger - Contains 'gingerol' a powerful substance with medicinal properties, that can improve digestion, inflammation, pain, support cardiovascular health, nausea, and heartburn. Ginger can help strengthen the digestive system and it has even been said to help with pain and inflammation of Osteoarthritis due to its powerful anti-inflammatory effects.

Cinnamon - Boosts the immune system, controls blood glucose levels, calms the mind, helps to reduce body fat, and has even been said to be beneficial to protect against Alzheimer's disease.

Turmeric - Said to relieve inflammation from arthritis, control knee pain from osteoarthritis, widely used for hay fever, depression, high cholesterol, liver disease, calm inflammatory bowel diseases. A little goes a long way!

Pepper - Just a tiny bit of pepper can help with the digestion of turmeric, and is also used as a tonic for the liver. Pepper has anti-inflammatory properties, improves blood sugar control, and may even help to lower cholesterol levels.

Lemon - A fresh squeeze of lemon cleanses the kidneys and liver of toxins, improves digestion, helps break down fasts, aids in hydration, and of course, it's loaded with Vitamin C – which we all need to boost the immune system

How to make this detoxifying morning tea:

To one large cup, add:

  • 3 to 4 slices of fresh, organic ginger (If your ginger is organic, no need to peel it first)

  • 1 Tbsp. of unpasteurized honey

  • 1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon (if you feel it gets 'stuck' in the throat, you may sieve it through a coffee filter first, when pouring water overtop. Most people are OK with it this way.)

  • 1/8 tsp. of ground turmeric (or a small pinch, see image on left hand side)

  • half a pinch or half a grind from your pepper grinder

  • juice of 1/2 an organic lemon

Pour boiling water overtop, and allow to cool to taste (about 5 minutes). The longer you steep it, the better it is to extract the benefits of the fresh ginger.

Enjoy this tea cooled and refrigerated as an "iced tea" drink throughout the day!
