Best (and healthiest!) teas to drink

Drinking tea on a daily basis may just be another wonderful and calming way to significantly improve your mood, skin, sleep, digestion, energy, and so much more! Here are the top recommended teas:

  • Chamomile tea: Calming and soothing, chamomile tea is helpful for insomnia, to help with digestion after a meal, great for coughs and bronchitis when you have a cold or fever. Be sure to purchase a good quality tea and steep well, as many chamomile teas can be cheap and weak, often requiring two bags per cup.

  • Peppermint tea: Perfect for anything to do with digestion (However, not recommended if heartburn is present): To relieve nausea, abdominal gas and bloating, muscle spasms, and to help promote body heating up (sweating) to break colds and fever.

  • Ginger honey tea: This tea is a great detoxifier to support liver function and relieve toxicity. Ginger can be used to curb nausea and upset stomach; combined with lemon, honey and cinnamon, it makes for the perfect germ-fighting concoction. Fresh, organic ginger is recommended, a thin slice is all that’s needed.

  • Rosehip tea: Feeling under the weather, or just can’t kick that cold? Rosehip is one of the best sources of Vitamin C, and a master at boosting the immune system and adrenal function. Great for skin issues as well.

  • Lemon balm tea: Plan to grow this in your garden next spring! This tea can help improve mood and concentration, and is often recommended for those with Alzheimers. Lemon balm helps lift the spirits and thus it’s one of the best winter teas to enjoy with a bit of honey.

  • Green tea: Often refered to as “black tea’s little sister,” green tea comes from the same Camellia sinensis leaves, just picked young and tender and immediately heat-treated to stop fermentation. Green tea is full of antioxidants, and it’s so good for us that even the American Institute for Cancer Research says it “may ward off everything from cancer to heart disease.” One study found that drinking a cup of green tea daily may lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by 10 percent.•
