Essential Oils and your feelings.

Researchers claim that our sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than any of our other senses. A scent can transport us back in time to a certain place, or connect us with a loved one’s memory. Essential Oils (or EO’s), can be effectively used to release stress, nervousness, sadness, negativity, or to evoke confidence, happiness, sleepiness, and more. They can also be used to help soothe the physical repercussions related to emotion.

How do EO’s work?

Scientifically speaking, the molecules of EO’s circulate through human tissue, bringing nutrients to our body’s cells, which translate the particular scent’s coded information into physical, mental or emotional benefits. EO’s molecules contain thousands of compounds, each with an affinity to certain cells of the human body. They’re like enzymes and hormones, and even like vitamins – each with a capability of releasing cellular memories stored anywhere in the body, to stimulate the limbic system – the portion of the brain that deals with emotions, memories and stimulation.

This means that emotions we feel can signal the brain to impact our nervous, endocrine and immune systems, and negatively allow us to feel pain, illness and imbalance. It also means that these negative emotions can become so chronic and self-limiting, that our bodies are unable to compensate physically for proper healing.

How can EO’s help?

EO’s can help you feel better, both emotionally and physically. Have you ever felt so sad that your body hurt? Did you ever hear that people who suffer from Depression, can also hurt physically? Sometimes our body can feel a certain way because of emotional blockages, and releasing them can help us heal.

EO’s don’t work on their own and they’re not a magic potion that can be applied for a quick fix. EO’s have to be used alongside affirmations and creation of positive patterns to break the cycle of negativity.

Some EO’s are particularly useful for banishing these gloomy feelings and promote self-worth:

  • Bergamot: Helps to let go of anger, anxiety, loneliness, insecurity, and fear.

  • Frankincense: Elevates and stimulates the mind, helping to let go of the constant need for approval, and feelings of worthlessness.

  • Geranium: Helps to let go of wanting to please everyone.

  • Jasmine: Helps with letting go of constant habits that burn you out.

  • Lavender: Helps to relax and sleep better; good for abandonment and atonement.

  • Rosewood: Helps release grief and sadness.

  • Sandalwood: Helps calm overactive emotions and strengthens independency.
