Oil Pulling: For healthier teeth and gums

"Oil pulling" is a procedure that involves putting and holding oil in the mouth, for many said health benefits. The procedure is part of Ayurveda, a system of medicine used by people in India for more than 5,000 years.
Historically, oil pulling has been used orally to prevent tooth decay, bad breath, bleeding gums, and to strengthen teeth, as well as to heal over 30 systemic diseases including headache and migraines, asthma, digestive issues, allergy and respiratory issues, skin issues (like rashes, eczema), arthritis and joint pains, even diabetes and some cancers.
According to studies compiled by the U.S. National Institute of Health, “oil pulling is a powerful detoxifying technique that has recently become very popular as a remedy for many different health ailments; is preventative as well as curative; and using this method, surgery or medication could be prevented for a number of chronic diseases.”
The best oils to use for oil pulling are sesame and sunflower oil, with sesame oil being considered the ‘queen of seed oils’ due to its many health benefits, although some prefer to use coconut oil because it tastes better. It’s recommended to only use organic, cold-pressed oils for oil pulling.
How to oil pull:
Take one tablespoon of oil into your mouth and hold for 15 minutes, while swishing oil around every part of the mouth
The consistency of the oil will change, and your mouth will produce more saliva, which is normal.
Spit out oil into a garbage bin – NOT INTO THE SINK, as this can clog drains
Rinse with water
Repeat 2 to 3 times per week (can also be done daily)
